David Byrne Debuts New Album ‘American Utopia’
David Byrne has returned his first solo record in fourteen years, and has done so over a week early. Hard copies are slated for release on March 9 via Todomundo/Nonesuch. American Utopia was preceded by the single “Everybody’s Coming to My House” and “This Is That.” The full stream can be found via the fine folks over at NPR.
According to Byrne:
The [album] title refers not to a specific utopia, but rather to our longing, frustration, aspirations, fears, and hopes regarding what could be possible, what else is possible,” Byrne said in a statement. “The description, the discontent and the desire — I have a feeling that is what these songs touch on.
Byrne’s last solo album was 2004’s Grown Backwards. His latest release was a collaboration with St. Vincent titled Love This Giant which dropped in 2012. Longtime collaborator Brian Eno co-wrote the album with Byrne. It was produced by Rodaidh McDonald.
Want to catch David Byrne live? You are in luck, well, sort of. The frontman for the Talking Heads has announced a massive world tour that he describes as “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense.” Excited? Us too! Much of it is sold out. Don’t wait any longer.
