For the next couple of months, we at Luaka Bop will be taking over the radio here at davidbyrne.com.

For this month’s radio show, it's a great pleasure to introduce Camilla Wasserman, who is one of the most curious, open-minded and inspiring people we've ever met. This would be the place to introduce Camilla and what she does, but that has not been an easy task. Camilla doesn't talk much about her professional life, since, as she told me, she prefers to engage with people around her based on elements beyond work titles and merits, instead connecting because you vibe with someone and because they are interesting to you. However, I have managed to gather that Camilla's interests are many and diverse. They include many years of anthropological research about teens and mental health issues, teaching at universities across the world, making short films and music videos (apparently she is sitting on an unreleased Azealia Banks video she made with Rodan Tekle years ago), and helping out at the library in the jail on Rikers Island.

Luaka Bop worked with Camilla on the music video for William Onyeabor’s ‘Fantastic Man’ that she made together with the British musician and film maker Adam Bainbridge, also known as Kindness. Adam and Camilla made a video that exemplified what being a ‘fantastic man’ actually meant—letting the best "illustration of 'fantastic' individuals be a group of people who were connected somehow, but who were not any one fixed age, background, race, gender or sexuality” as Adam put it. During a couple of cold and snowy days before the December holidays of 2013, Camilla and Adam went on to make this beautiful video, featuring the lovely Roller Skate Dancers of Central Park.

When we were asked to do a show here on David Byrne's Radio, the first person that came to mind for doing a show with us was Camilla. I knew it would be a challenge to get her onboard, but that if she agreed, she would make something very different, and interesting. I was curious what she was going to play, and, most of all, what she was going to say.

It went like this...

Love,
