Byrne is an avid fan of science. “I’d read about certain experiments that labs had done, and my immediate thought was ‘I want to do that,'” he says. “I want to be the subject. I want to see what that’s like.’”
The idea behind the 80-minute show is to use elements of theater and art to teach viewers about how our brains work, and bring cutting-edge research into the mainstream. “We wanted to share these concepts with as many people as possible,” the collaborators said in a statement.

Byrne and Gaonkar said in a statement, “Experiments, we feel, are a form of theater. We have adopted elements of art installation and immersive theater to present these experiences in ways we think will be as engaging for others as they have been for us."
That is not the only big-scale project Byrne is working on. He’s also developing a musical about Joan of Arc.
“The good news is that, from what I can tell, it’s not absolutely fixed. Our biases have changed. Our reaction to women having a vote, or slavery, or all of these things, you name it, have changed completely in the space of, whatever, 100 years or less. ... We’re not doing lessons, but that’s what I’m getting.”
This fall, the artist and former Talking Heads frontman introduces an installation that taps into his scientific side.
