Bad Bunny, from Puerto Rico, was at the TOP of the Billboard charts for 11 weeks!
He was dethroned by Peso Pluma, a Mexican artist who often works with regional Mexican styles. I am thinking that this is part of a global phenomena! While income from streaming overwhelmingly goes to just a handful of artists, streaming has given access to artists all over the world who can no longer be kept out by, for example, US radio programmers... The radio programmers are racing to catch up.
This doesn’t just apply to Latin Pop… African artists are cracking the charts as well, and the Oscar for the best movie song went to Naatu Naatu from the Telugu language film RRR. That has never happened before.
The colonies strike back!
